Bartell re-signs, call for Butler to don the Horns
St Louis inked Ron Bartell to a 4 year, $28m contract with $13.6m guaranteed last night. The Rams Free Agent was seen as one of the most valuable players available this off-season and after fellow corners Nnamdi Asomugha and Dunta Robinson were tagged, Bartell became a hot commodity that the Rams couldn’t let slip away.
Upon re-signing Bartell quickly tried to promote the Rams cause to buddy James Butler, who visited Rams Park at the weekend and left without a deal. The Rams are looking to add a strong-safety to their defensive backfield mix, and Butler who played under Spagnuolo in New York, looks to be the primary target for St Louis.
In other news that might interest the Rams, it is being rumoured that the Chargers are looking to trade Antonio Cromartie. Cromartie is a talented player and it’s surprising that they might want to do so. If that is the case, might the rams be interested if they could do a deal involving Holt or Pace.
*UPDATE* It seems that Cromartie will be traded if the Chargers can re-sign Drayton Florence, the man who Cromartie replaced originally.
Cromartie, who’s numbers dropped in 2008 (2 INTsin ‘08 vs 10 INTs ‘07), apparently played all of the 2008 season with a broken hip!
