Jets interested in Holt too?

Speculation about where Tory Holt will end up has been rife over the past week or so.

Today has seen a new player enter the game… the New York Jets. Rich Cimini’s blog, The Jet Stream, is calling for the franchise to pursue Holt once he gets his rumoured release before the 17th March. Cimini notes, “He might not be an elite receiver anymore, but he still has enough in the tank to draw respect from a defense. He’s a prideful professional and the change of scenery will do wonders for him.”

TheJetsBlog follows up Cimini’s article here adding “Obviously Holt would be in a short term situation and despite the praises David Clowney and Chansi Stuckey have received his skills might be worth the investment.”

VanRam chips in too of course mentioning that people shouldn’t “overlook the fact that Henry Ellard, long-time Rams receivers coach (and the Rams last great WR prior to the Holt/Bruce era), became the Jets WR coach after his eight season stint in the same role with the Rams.”

On Twitter, STLtoday sports writer Bernie Miklasz (@miklasz) tweeted “Looks like Torry Holt will have several suitors should the Rams release him; Titans and Jets are emerging as possibilities. Same w/Giants”

The Ellard link does give a move to the Jets some credibility, but I think Tory would like to end his career with a franchise that is play-off worthy (which the Jets aren’t). The Eagles would make a nice landing point as they are perennial contenders but they do play in the tough NFC East. Although it’s a real dark horse, what about New England? Belichick likes picking up veterans that other franchise release too early and it was rumoured they might have been interested in Owens…

UPDATE

Terry McCormick of The City Paper is reporting that the Tennessee Titans are readying to make a run at ‘Big Game’ too. McCormick writes that Holt is, “the type of smart upgrade the Titans have tried to make when looking to add to experience to a position.”
